Karl Klingbiel : The Diving Science

Produced in conjunction with the exhibitions Karl Klingbiel: Ghosts, Plants & Poetry—Recent Paintingsat Elizabeth Moore Fine Art, New York, and American Theocracy at Galerie Florian Sundheimer, Munich. Klingbiel’s paintings are largely about edges and boundaries and pose questions about where the painting as a depiction of imagery on a plane ends and the painting as an object begins. The book was designed to similarly give strength and mystery to edges and boundaries. Careful consideration was given to the placement of blocks of text on the page and to location of images within the text, in order to lend the formal nature of the book a poesis that derives from the work itself.
