Chola Bronzes From South India
The Sensuous and the Sacred: Chola Bronzes from South India. Produced in conjunction with an exhibition organized by the American Federation of Arts and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washington, DC. The ornate and richly detailed bronzes of the Chola Dynasty require a clean, minimal setting. The book’s grid and font (Helvetica) allow a significant amount of information to be shown within a spare and spacious environment, a suggestion of the calm, reflective places these objects originally occupied. The muted palette of the book reflects the tonality of the images themselves and assumes a stance of meditative deference to the sacred nature of the objects.
